If you need to shred large volumes of material on a regular basis, you might be wondering which type of industrial shredder is best for your needs: a single shaft shredder or a double shaft shredder. Single shaft shredders are great for smaller jobs since they require less space and are easier to operate. However, they can’t handle as much volume as double shaft shredders. Double shaft shredders are bigger and more expensive, but they can process more material in less time. So which type is right for you? That depends on the amount of material you need to shredded and the amount of space you have available. Here’s a look at the pros and cons of each type of shredder to help you make the best decision for your business.

Shredders Rotary Blades & Hydraulic Pushers

Single Shaft Shredder is equipped with only one shaft welded with rotary blades. The rotor is a hydraulic-actuated pusher arm. and a screen underneath the rotating shaft.

Genox K Series single shaft shredders provide high-performance, heavy-duty single shaft milling rotors. It has multiple rotor knives positioned in a chevron configuration and mounted in easily replaceable knife holders. The hydraulic pusher effectively delivers material to the rotor according to motor load.

Double Shaft Shredder is built with two shafts of blades, which we also call dual shearing shafts. Its rotor consists of multiple disks of blades. The 2 rotors counter-rotate. There is no hydraulic-driven pusher or screen on this machine.

Genox M Series twin shaft shredders consist of a hydraulic force feeder that actively presses the material down towards the center of the shredding chamber. To effectively control the output product size, a circular screen is mounted around the cutting chamber. The rotary screen runs at low speed, the oversize fractions are recirculated back to the cutting chamber for further shredding.

Industrial Shredders Applications

Single Shaft Shredder Applications

Single Shaft Shredder is suitable for processing a wide range of materials like plastics, paper and cardboard, copper cables, aluminum, textile, security destruction, foam, and industrial wastes.

The Genox K Series Single Shaft Shredders are heavy-duty machines suitable for processing a wide range of materials. This range of shredders is ideal for the size reduction of flexible and/or medium hardness hollow products often loaded in bales.

Typical applications

·        Plastics – moldings, purging/lump, profiles, films

·        Paper and cardboard – confidential documents, production waste, packaging materials

·        Copper cable – household, automotive, telecoms, and industrial cables including S.W.A.

·        Aluminium – used beverage cans, swarf, cables

·        Textiles – carpet (rolls and tiles), garments

·        Security destruction – counterfeit items, faulty goods, out of date stocks

·        Foam – production waste, insulation materials, product fillings

·        Mixed household, commercial and industrial wastes – RDF / SRF production

Double Shaft Shredder Applications

Double Shaft shredder excels in shredding large and relatively light or hollow products, such as car/truck tires, film, plastic/steel drums, scrap TV/computer, scrap fax/printing machines, etc. Also, a mixture of the material streams like MSW can use a double shaft shredder.

The M Series Twin Shaft Shredders operate at low speed with high torque, minimizing noise and power consumption while achieving high throughput rates. These machines are ideal for the size reduction of bulky or voluminous materials which could include contamination such as metals or stones.

Typical applications

·        Plastics – mixing plastics, plastic drums or containers

·        Electronic scrap – WEEE directive materials

·        Tyres – car tires, debearded truck tyres

·        Wood – pallets

·        Packaging materials – cardboard

·        Metals – lead, aluminum, copper

·        Textiles

Double Shaft Shredder

Operation Process

A single-shaft shredder, when the material is fed into the hopper, the pusher arm drives the material against the rotor, ensuring the material is efficiently in contact with and shredded by the rotary knives. The material will be repeatedly shredded till the shreds are small enough to pass throughput the screen. Therefore, you can get uniform output particles.

With a double shaft shredder, once the material is fed into the machine, the two shafts of cutting blades hook the material and then bite it until it’s fully broken down into pieces. No intervention of pusher ram or screen. The irregular sizes of shredded particles directly fall to the collection bin/conveyor.
